Job Description:
Provide overall direction and leadership in the music and worship of the congregation. The primary emphasis will be providing a prayerful ministry in music that will help set the atmosphere for Christ-centered worship and encourage participation in worship (and worship leadership) by the congregation. Specific duties include:  Direct the adult choir, including selection of music, recruitment, rehearsals and performance at the regularly scheduled  services and special events; develop or invite special vocal and instrumental groups, including a church orchestra and smaller ensembles as able based on available musicians, especially at festivals and other special occasions; assist in developing the musical talents of the congregation for ministry in worship; oversee the children's choir and Wednesday band (children's choir responsibilities will be done in close coordination with the children's choir director); partial responsibility  for planning the worship services in cooperation with the pastor and other worship leaders, including 9am Sunday worship and 6pm Wednesday worship; attend monthly worship committee meetings; be responsible for assuring that those participating in the music ministry are adequately prepared and that the music selected is appropriate; provide oversight of the church's music library; help to encourage congregational singing as a means of corporate worship.  Qualifications:  Faith in Christ as Lord and familiarity with Lutheran worship and liturgy; minimum of a BA degree in music or music ed., or the equivalent; further studies in sacred music, theology or bible beneficial; able to discern who is gifted to lead music and worship; able to work with a team; sensitivity to the holistic nature of worship, as it engages ministries such as education, pastoral care, prayer, evangelism, and social justice; imagination and creativity; proficiency in voice and piano, guitar or other ensemble instrument beneficial.
