Cambridge Food Pantry News
With the holiday season just around the corner, it’s a good time to remember our local friends that may not be able to enjoy a holiday meal. The Cambridge Food Pantry is sponsoring the Turkey Basket-Adopt a Turkey program for Thanksgiving. For $25.00 you can sponsor a basket containing a 12-15 lb. turkey, fresh potatoes, celery, onion, squash, apples and oranges, canned cranberry sauce, jar of gravy, a box of stuffing mix and a pie. I have committed our church to adopting 20 turkeys. I would love to ‘run out of turkeys’ and be able to request at least 10 more from the coordinator of the pantry! The last date to sponsor a turkey will be Sunday, November 6. Please consider helping if you are able. I will be in church each Sunday and collect the envelopes for return to the Food Pantry. Please contact me with questions. Barb Klemp – 608-423-4392.

Missionary Visit: John & Amy Lindstrom
Share Good News At East Koshkonong

December 4, 2011, at 9:00 A.M. service
Come and hear what God has been doing through your prayers and financial partnership with the Malei people. The Malei people first heard the Good News through German Lutheran missionaries in the 1940s. Large numbers of Malei people responded and Lutheran churches now meet in every Malei village. The Good News came to them in the Jabem language and since then Malei people have been waiting to have God's Word in their own language. On December 4, 2011 come celebrate the dedication of their New Testament which took place last December. East Koshkonong Lutheran Church has been partners with John and Amy Lindstrom since they first went to Papua New Guinea in 1991. John and Amy worked with Malei believers to enable them to translate God's Word into their own language. While helping Malei people learn to use their New Testaments, John and Amy have also begun work in two languages related to Malei and hope to see translations started in additional languages. John and Amy are currently on home assignment in Minnesota until they return to Papua New Guinea in June 2012.

Letter from John & Amy Lindstrom
Dear Friends of East Koshkonong Lutheran Church,
Praise the Lord with us that in December 2010 the Malei New Testament was dedicated in Yemli village, Papua New Guinea. There were international guests and nearly 1,000 Malei people at the dedication. It was a great time of celebration and thanksgiving.Thank you so much for your faithful partnership and encouragement that allowed this great blessing to come to the Malei people. Malei people can now hear and read God’s Word in their own language. And we have seen God at work among the Malei people through His Word in exciting ways.

Elisa, the Malei translator, is happy that now Malei teachers and preachers can use God’s Word in Malei when they teach. He is also working to encourage Malei people throughout the language group to use this new treasure that is available to them for the first time. And since he knows what a blessing it is for the Malei people to have God’s Word in their language, he has now begun working as a facilitator for the neighboring language group of Yamap so that they too can have God’s Word in their language also.

We are currently on home assignment and located in Burnsville, Minnesota until we return to Papua New Guinea in June 2012.

We are available to visit with and encourage you by reporting what God has been doing through your prayers and financial partnership among the Malei people. We would be glad to share in any context that works best for you.

Please feel free to contact us at the above address or phone number.
In Him,
John and Amy Lindstrom

ELCA World Hunger:
Clean Water Projects

Did you know?
Over 1 billion people in the world lack access to safe drinking water. Approximately one-third of deaths in the world are caused by contaminated water.

Life-giving water projects funded by ELCA World Hunger repair and build wells and water catchment systems.  With each working well, 500 families gain access to safe, clean drinking water- meeting a basic need and ensuring a healthier future.

How can you help?
$12 provides six water jugs for transporting clean water. $150 offers a hand water pump.  $1250 constructs a community rainwater catchment system. $2500 digs and installs a well.  How will you help? Give to ELCA World Hunger to make a lasting difference in the lives of many! Click for ELCA World Hunger online.

Good Samaritan Fund
As people in our congregation and community continue to suffer the impact of our recent recession, our congregation has a unique opportunity to care for its neighbors. If you are in need of assistance because of a recent job loss or other financial struggles, please know that you can apply to the EKLC Good Samaritan Fund for financial assistance. If you are a family who would like to help out people who are struggling, but you haven't quite figured out how, consider making a gift to the Good Samaritan Fund. You will know that the money is being used to help people buy food and gas, cover housing expenses, or bring relief from high medical bills and other expenses.

The Good Samaritan Fund is currently very low on funds. We invite regular and substantial gifts to the fund in order to continue to care for our neighbors in need.
